In a candid interview, Aishwarya Rajinikanth discussed the mixed reviews and the box office performance of her recent directorial venture, ‘Lal Salaam’. The film, which featured her father and superstar Rajinikanth in a pivotal cameo, was released on February 9 and has since been a topic of much discussion.

Aishwaryaa revealed that the inclusion of Rajinikanth’s character, Moideen Bhai, significantly altered the screenplay. Originally intended to be a brief appearance, the role expanded considerably once Rajinikanth joined the cast, necessitating a rewrite to focus the narrative around him. This change, according to Aishwaryaa, led to the commercial aspects of the film overshadowing its strong content.

Despite the challenges and the film’s failure to meet commercial expectations, Aishwarya expressed satisfaction with her work as a filmmaker, emphasizing the learning experience it provided. She also highlighted that ‘Lal Salaam’ is based on true incidents, which is why the film lacked conventional twists and followed a non-linear narrative in the first half, potentially confusing the audience.

The director also touched upon the constraints of editing the film down to 2 hours and 20 minutes, just two days before its release, which she believes compromised character development and detailing.

‘Lal Salaam’, starring Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth alongside Rajinikanth ,aimed to explore themes of communal harmony but ultimately could not escape the shadow of its most famous cast member .
